President Erick Thohir visited Appiano Gentile today to welcome new coach Frank De Boer to the Inter. During his brief stay, he found time to speak to Inter Channel about a variety of issues, not least the transfer market:
“The most important thing is that we want to strengthen the team. We’ve brought in Candreva already. There might be one or two players we want to bring in but I think it’s important that these players are good for Inter. Of course Frank still has time to evaluate the team. I think he has a new way of playing football. Maybe it’s different, I don’t know, let’s see. We’re going to evaluate the team too but that doesn’t mean we’re going to weaken the team. We want to strengthen the team.”
Thohir also spoke of the transition from Roberto Mancini to Frank De Boer in these past few days: “I would like to say thank you to Roberto Mancini. Last season was successful and we improved a lot. I also mentioned to Frank, ‘This is Inter’, we have a great history and it’s important that he works, works, and works again, like the president. It’s important to show the fans that we are serious people. We want to make sure Inter get back into the Champions League.”
The president, currently performing in his role as head of the Indonesian Olympic Commitee, concluded by affirming he will attend Inter’s first home league match of the new season: “I’m flying back to Brazil because I need to secure gold for my country, Indonesia. So far, we’ve only won two silvers. After Brazil I have a few meetings in London, then I’ll come back to Milan on 27 August for the first home match. I’ll be here, don’t worry.”
