TS: Ausilio-Mirabelli set to do battle

Piero Ausilio and Massimo Mirabelli are set to do battle in the forthcoming transfer windows as both Inter and AC Milan look to strengthen their respective squads under new Chinese ownership.

This is no coincidence, given that the Rossoneri’s new sporting director shared ideas with Ausilio in his role as an Inter scout until recently.

Tuttosport have published a report on the two clubs’ shared transfer targets and subsequently raised the question: who copies who?

Swedish central defender Victor Lindelöf, currently of Benfica, is on the shortlist of most top European clubs whilst Lazio winger Keita Baldé Diao continues to attract attention from both sides of Milan. These would be difficult deals to seal in January, which could result in a head-to-head battle such as the one we saw in Monte Carlo in the summer of 2015 when Inter eventually outbid their rivals for Geoffrey Kondogbia.

Both clubs are in need of a reinforcement in defence: Inter must sign a quality alternative to Miranda and Jeison Murillo whilst Milan require a long-term partner for Alessio Romagnoli. 23-year-old São Paulo defender Rodrigo Caio is one such option, not least because the Brazilian holds an Italian passport.

19-year-old Santos midfielder Thiago Maia – a Rio 2016 Olympic champion alongside Caio – is another talented youngster who many clubs are keeping an eye on. Meanwhile, Dinamo Zagbreb’s latest teenage sensation Ante Ćorić intrigues many clubs across Europe, including Manchester City and Liverpool. The Croatian would cost at least 15m.
