Pioli: “We stopped playing as a team and we were cocky”

Inter are now officially knocked out of the Europa League! It is evident that there is still much work to do for Pioli after Inter’s disappointing loss against the Israeli side, Hapoel Be’er Sheva. Stefano Pioli analyzed the knockout tonight in the press conference.

How do you explain the difficulties in the second half of the match? What happened?
“We stopped playing as a team and we were cocky. It must never happen, we can not afford to do that.”

Why the second half so negative?
“We had the ball possession, but we did not deliver. We must work to stop granting the opponent the possession on certain occasions.”

What was the most obvious problem?
“The result of Prague does not matter anymore. We can not play with two faces. The first half we played very well, but badly in the second half. It would have been sufficient to have the same attitude. From the physical point of view we have, even at the end we tried. We will have to improve. The past does not count, today we can not be satisfied with our work.”

Why so many goals conceded tonight?
“We are working on all fronts: physical, psychological, technical and tactical. A team that does so well in the first half does not offer a shoot like that. We have players of great value, but we must also be good at suffering. This night I we played Inter.”

At one point in the match, you realized the team was giving up?
“We lowered too much, and so we gave Hapoel the field. I changed something to recover the balance that we had lost.”
