Patrik Schick spoke with Tuttosport on his brief time in Italy and what the future holds for him: “I could have stayed at Sparta or accepted other offers from abroad. I am convinced by the project and intend to carry on here. It was a difficult and troubled choice. It could have gone better or worse, there was a 50% risk. It had been a bet with myself.”
What was the impact of the move to Italy?
“Apart from the usual problems that a foreigner encounters when moving abroad, opening a bank account, looking for a house…I did not encounter any particular difficulties in settling in. Well, the language is a serious obstacle, but I am learning. Here I have also learned to eat well: fish and gnocchi with pesto. My girlfriend Hanna is with me. The real problem was on the pitch. Here we play a totally different football compared to what is played in the Czech Republic. It’s more tactical and technical and even faster. In my first two months I was having a difficult time integrating into the team. Ivan (now on loan at Bari) and Škriniar, who both speak one of the same languages as me, helped me a lot. But I worked hard and now I feel better from all points of view. For example, I think and act much faster. But overall I think I have acquired added value that I did not previously possess.”
On Sunday, Giampaolo said: “Schick can only play a little or I will be forced to sell him”
“I heard his joke in mixed-zone. I laughed too.”
Schick then spoke on the interest from the likes of Inter that has arose in recent weeks:
“Of course, I am pleased to be appreciated by other teams. I’m flattered, God forbid, like all the other players in my condition. But this is not my job, deal with my agents. I only think of Sampdoria. Besides, I am fine here. The fact that so many young people from other countries are found in the same group has fostered integration because the start was common. Just see how we help each other in the game: this common purpose is a symptom of the great understanding that is present in the dressing room. Next year, backed by the experience of the championship, I’m sure we will do better and we will get important results”.
