On the day of his 50th birthday, Inter-legend Nicola Berti was interviewed by RAI Sport about today’s derby della Madonnina as well as what his former club needs to do in order to return to at least playing in the Champions League.
“I am on Pioli’s side, he’s a friend and he’s from Parma just like me. Also, he’s a very serious person. Antonio Conte or Diego Simeone? I say no to Conte, El Cholo we have some history with but on May 5th 2002 he was very sly against us [Simeone scoreda goal ending Inter’s scudetto dreams].”
“Suning are a very serious and important company, this shoudl give us a sense of pride. We’re on the relaunch pad again. Gagliardini my heir? He is a bit more physical and I was a bit more technical. Ever Banega is a mystery, but he plays some incredible final passes. Joao Mario has been enigmatic, we gambled on Gabigol, I saw him during the Olympics and he impressed me.”
In conclusion Berti was asked who he thinks Inter should try to sign this coming summer: “First of all Marco Verratti, then I also like Alexis Sanchez a lot. Then I would sign Bernardeschi and also Berardi, if another central defender arrives we are a team destined for the Champions League.”
