After the most important win against Roma away, Inter coach Luciano Spalletti expressed his opinions about tonight’s game to Premium Sport.
Is this an important win since there were periods of the game when Inter made the fans crazy? “I was behind what the team did although there weren’t that many chances and the players failed to let the ball do the job. They were always very organized and the few times we could benfit from something we lost the ball. Sometimes we didn’t have the courage todo what we wanted, in some ways because they were always pressuring us. In these games you have a game plan to follow or you risk to get crushed. In the first half they were better than us”.
Is there a need to continue the process of developing the team mentally? “We have chosen to do things differently in comparison to previous management and we have to find confidence in doing these new things. Also the game against Fiorentina was a tough game, because Pioli was so appreciated by the players and left the club leaving great memories. Then we face Roma who is such a strong team and we were a bit lucky tonight”.
Did Roma deserve more according to you? “Roma played great today but were a bit unfortunate with three shots in the woodwork. But luck goes tho who ever has the courage to do certain things. With Joao Mario on the pitch we did better, we could have started with him but football is played for 90 minutes and that makes your original idea to go south sometimes”.
Borja Valero’s position? “The more he charges the better he gets. He is very good in finding the right position and getting the ball between the defense and the midfield. ”
With a good central defender, could this be a Scudetto Inter? “We were 30 points behind Juventus last season and now we fight for the championship… We have to be realistic, we can always do better, we have a great team, but we have to put our heads down and work. The team is strong, this was a great game with a great crowd”.
Did you salute Totti? “I didn’t see him, if I would have I would have given him my best”.
What about your reception? “The fans think that I was the reason for him stepping down, but I wasn’t there this year and the organisation could have pursuaded him to play another year. The totti fans wasn’t to happy with my return, but the romanisti had a lot of nice messagges”.
