Argentina national team manager Jorge Sampaoli has revealed Mauro Icardi may not start the games with Peru and Ecuador due to an injury: “He arrived with a physical problem that he has been carrying since he played against Australia,” Sampaoli revealed at a press conference ahead of the game. He added “In the last games it was a hassle for him and for he has trained with a bit of pain. For this reason, in training we have seen that Benedetto will be the number 9 for us.”
The Albicelesete must win both of their final games to secure a playoff berth at the very least. They currently occupy the playoff spot on 24 points but Chile and Paraguay – with 23 and 21 points respectively – can still pip them to it if they are to fail to do as required.
