Luciano Spalletti: “Icardi is great, a complete striker. When you wear an Inter shirt you have duties”

Inter coach Luciano Spalletti spoke to Premium Sport’s microphones about the match against Milan, the first victory in the Milan derby for the Italian coach:

Positive Notes: Winning a derby and arriving at the Napoli match with only a 2 point deficit?

“It has a great flavor, winning matches so enthusiastically but then you have to be realistic and analyze the game. We were professionals the whole time, we understood the moment and exploited it.”

Did you think you would not win the match at some point?

“Doing this job you already suffer if you think you are suffering, it’s better to enjoy these games because I’ve never played so many matches in a stadium like this. Milan has a beautiful derby because they made it like this, it must be a show to be enjoyed regardless of who wins.”

When the ball moves quickly and arrives to the wingers, then Icardi’s movements become devastating.

“We also have to keep the ball in the middle of field to move it to the wings, sometimes we did not do it because in the second half Montella told his team to use aerial balls, while in the first half they played more ball on the ground. The ball behind the defensive line, especially the first played by Candreva, is the Icardi specialty. ”

Icardi recovers ball on Biglia and then triggers the action of the goal. What adjective do you use today?

“Great. Despite the responsibilities he has, he always listens, his contribution becomes fundamental to the team. He runs back to cover over sixty meters of the pitch. Then he has to float around the defensive line because if he does not do it he becomes easier to mark. He has strength, movement and technique: he is a complete player, who for his age takes on a lot of responsibilities and develops.”

What will you do to score and not concede in Napoli?

“I want a team in the field like tonight, against a very strong opponent. By wearing this shirt you have certain duties, you have to send a message to who was there tonight and who wants to stay be near us.”

What were the components that allowed Inter to win?

“We exploited some moments, Montella is right when he talks about a good second half from them, but they forced the rhythms, Borini no longer returned to the defensive line, if we kept the ball more in the middle of the field and allowed the wingers to receive the ball it would have been to create chances, some of which we created, like that of Eder. At some point we had to change the defense because we were struggling with their wing-backs, but in the end we found a solution. ”
