Rafa Benitez spoke to La Repubblica, and talked about Inter and his unfortunate experience in 2010 at the helm of the Beneamata. “I have happy memories from Italy, at Inter I won two titles in six months and I did the same with Napoli. All in all I have a great memories from that period. ”
“I remember Milan as a scattered city and I never had the chance to experience it properly, I used to live outside of the centre. In my time, the team in the league was struggling, I had 12 players in the team who were over 30 years old and there was a need to change, but my requests were not listened to by Moratti. After I left they revolutionised the squad, and now thanks to the Chinese owners, they can fight it at the top with Juventus and Napoli.”
“I’m not sure that the level in Serie A has improved, but there are certainly 3 or 4 stronger teams, thanks to foreign capital. The money makes the difference, to get the good players and to stop them leaving the club.”

i know many interisti hate him.. i don’t really like him too, but i don’t hate him.. moratti was to be blame at the time, i was saying this, and will continue to say this.. after 2010 we have the oldest team in serie a, maybe in europe. but moratti refuse to make investment on new young player.. i remember benitez asking for new young blood, but he never got it. and sacked.. SMH
I also thought the same, but Moratti also in difficult situation. We all know that our balance was all red even in our treble season, adding more player means more salary and more expense, meanwhile moratti already drain out his money and fans would not easily accept decision to sell our treble heroes. The player themselves become arrogant after the treble, always quetioning and challenging coach tactical decision, like gasperini famously said there are senators in Inter dressing room.
Plus, we failed subtituted our former players with the better ones.
*Example, we bought forlan to replace etoo. Mudingayi for thiago motta.
Yeah, some of the players were arrogant and stuck on the Mourinho cult – I think Rafa was never given a proper chance/conditions to work, although I’m not the biggest fan of him personally.
He was was the only coach who really trusted Coutinho. But I cannot still fathom to this day why he let Bale to murder Maicon in that CL game.
those game still hurt my eye. Zanneti and maicon can kill bale on that game, but maybe rafa set the defense not to man mark him. those game run on many goal for both team.
