Roberto Mancini “Not Surprised” By Inter’s Start To The Season

Former Inter manager Roberto Mancini spoke in length to Corriere dello Sport discussing the ongoing Serie A season and Inter.

“Napoli are strong and every year can be the right one to win the scudetto. They will have to deal with Juve who are accustomed to being there always, It will be a great challenge for sure,” he said when asked if he thinks current league leaders Napoli can go all the way.

Juventus’ Paulo Dybala has starred as expected this term and Mancini recalled when Inter had the opportunity to sign the Argentine from Palermo.

“Inter could have closed the deal to sign him.  You could see a mile away that he would become a top player. He can still improve a lot too.”

Inter have started the season unbeaten and currently sit third in the Serie A table but this has not surprised Mancini, who has served as Inter manager on two occasions.

“I’m not surprised because I knew it was just a matter of time until Inter were back up fighting at the top. We built an important foundation that would improve year after year [while I was still manager].

“Luciano Spalletti is a well-trained coach who has important players at his disposal,” he added.

Mancini then spoke on his exit from the club in 2016, just two weeks before the start of the season.

“My work was left incomplete like that of all the other sacked managers who’ve followed me, but I like that the Inter is back to fighting at the top. Pre-season had been badly organised, there was too much travel with few training sessions.”
