We are very happy to once again be competing in this competition.”

The in-form Inter midfielder went on to say “I am happy to be a part of this squad and we will prepare as best as possible to play against some of the best teams in the world.”

The former Fiorentina player was asked of his memories of two former Uruguayan’s who played for Inter, Diego Forlan and Alvaro Recoba: “My first memories of a Uruguay team at the World Cup are from 2002, when we went out at the group stage. I was falling asleep watching the Senegal game as it was early morning, then at the end of the game we managed to make it 3-3. With Forlan we returned to play at the highest level.”
