Former Inter striker Mario Corso was interviewed by Sport Mediaset during the football magazine show ‘4-4-2’ and he was full of praise for Inter captain Mauro Icardi.

The young Argentine striker is on the verge of beating Corso’s goal tally for Inter and Corso shared his thoughts on this.

“I think it’s already written that he will overtake me so let’s hope it’s sooner rather than later. He’s in the team to score goals, I was in the team to carry out different duties so it’s the bare minimum for him to overtake me. I think that Icardi is a top player and I hope he overtakes me soon. I’m happy for him.”

He was asked who he thinks deserves merit for the start to the season that Inter have enjoyed where they have went the first 13 matches unbeaten.

“I think  the merit has to lie with the manager, who after his initial difficulties is managing this group of players well which last season looked a difficult job. Everyone is doing really well with 3 or 4 players actually playing above their expectations.

“Spalletti is starting to form a real team. He is a manager that reads the game so well and is able to adapt and change during a game. My manager Helenio Herrera was a great manager but he couldn’t read the games. He was fortunate to have a formidable team at his disposal.”

Finally he was asked if Inter can win the Scudetto this season.

“A thought costs nothing. The main objective is return to Champions League football and I believe that they remain on track for that. If the team continues this form and this mentality anything could happen.”
