Massimo Moratti: “Scudetto Is Not Beyond Inter”

Former Inter President Massimo Moratti was present at the ‘Sport, Movies & TV’ event and answered a few questions from journalists that were present.

Moratti firstly shared his thoughts on Carlo Tavecchio’s resignation as FIGC Presidnet.

“I’ve read a lot of things that have been said, I have to say that from a humanitarian point of view that I feel for him because he gave everything to this job. He was also very unlucky but everything has its own logic. In life it is like this, in that if certain goals are not achieved, this is the cruelty of these situations.

“I think he was hurt. He felt he was fighting against what was his fate but it was something that he should really have expected.”

When asked about if the problems in Italian football started with Tavecchio he responded that “Italy have always been quite lucky.

“When things are seemingly going well you don’t look in to them. It has always been spoken about foreigners and young players in our game but I think that we have a group of strong young Italian players in Serie A. Same can be said for Serie B too. We just need to find a way to improve that kind of management.”

Moratti was then asked if Inter could go on to win the Scudetto this season and if additions are needed in January for Inter to remain in the race.

“I don’t think it’s beyond them but for superstitious reasons it’s probably best we don’t mention it because Inter are playing really well at the moment. They are a strong side that are winning games and points on merit so far. We can always look towards the Scudetto but naturally we started the season looking for UEFA Champions League qualification and that must remain the objective.”

“I think that the people at Suning are very generous people and that if they decide in agreement with the manager that they need to bring in some players to strengthen the squad in January, then they will. But I couldn’t tell you which areas they need to improve.”
