Real Madrid Jose Angel Sanchez has confirmed that there was a wealth of interest in midfielder Mateo Kovacic in the summer including from former club Inter.

“In the summer, there were many offers and clubs interested. In Italy, not only Juventus and Milan, but Inter also were interest. Tottenham were also interested,” he explained to Croatian outlet Sportske Novosti.

Sanchez then confirmed the Spanish club’s stance on the 23-year-old who joined Los Blancos back in 2015.

“Kovacic is not for sale, we will never sell him. He is an intelligent boy, he knows he would be a starter in each of the clubs that asked for him, but he is equally aware of the fact that we count on him too. He is one of those players who has a future with Real Madrid.”

The Croatian international has found opportunities limited this term making just six appearances in all competitions and has been unable to score or assist during that time.
