Benfica have opened up disciplinary proceedings against Gabriel Barbosa after the Brazilian forward breached club protocol when caught out partying in the early hours of a match day. It is unclear how the 21-year-old, who is on loan from Inter, could be disciplined for his actions.
Gabigol, as he is also known, has not enjoyed the best of times in Portugal where it was hoped he would find regular playing time and make a complete adaption to European football. He has been limited to just four first team appearances in all competitions this term and has not even been named in the squad for the Eagles past three fixtures.
Benfica have an option to redeem Gabigol for €25 million until next summer but given his limited usage and the ongoing proceedings, they are unlikely to wish to do so anymore. Otherwise the former Santos striker is under contract with Inter through to 2021.
