According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Stefan de Vrij will not renew his contract with Lazio and therefore Inter are set to try signing him on a free transfer once his deal expires in June next year.

Indeed, Barcelona are also in pursuit of the Dutch centre-back and so it is not a given that he will arrive in Milan in any case. The Nerazzurri have already offered the 25-year-old a four-year deal worth €4 million per season.

In the meantime, Walter Sabatini and Piero Ausilio have started looking for alternative targets who could also join the club next summer. Paraguayan defender Fabián Balbuena, who won the Brazilian league title with Corinthians last season, is one of the names under consideration.

20-year-old Mexican stopper César Montes is also an option. He currently plays for Monterrey and is contracted to the Liga MX giants until June 2020. Only time will tell which one of these players – if any – will ply their trade at San Siro next season.
