Speaking ahead of this weekends game away to Fiorentina, Inter manager Luciano Spalletti sent out a warning to his players about how they should be applying themselves on the pitch. In particular he seemed to single out Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic saying: “when I have chosen to play him he has done well and not so well. You application becomes fundamental to what you want to try and do during a game. It becomes pointless to talk about playing and what you want to do in attack if you cannot win the ball back. This applies to everyone. It is something we must all do as a team.”

With Inter not performing well of late, this rings as a timely warning to Brozovic and the rest of the squad that he expects more of his players compared to what he has been seeing of late. With only one goal scored and no wins in the last four games, Spalletti will be looking to his team to bounce back against Fiorentina and hope to spark a reaction in his players and in particular a player like Brozovic, who’s place in the side is at threat with the transfer rumours circling around a possible signing being made in his position.
