Luciano Spalletti: “We Need To Start Winning Again”

Inter coach Luciano Spalletti ended a series of interviews by stopping by Inter TV to share his final analysis of last night’s draw in the Serie A away against Fiorentina at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Spalletti began by expressing remorse and regret saying that: “I wish we would have been more direct in our play in the first half. Too many counter attacks given with a lot of open spaces. Then after our goal we could have taken better advantage of the occasions given to us when Fiorentina lost the ball. Then we have this episode when everything goes wrong and we loose two points. Instead of being aggressive we were second to every ball, we lacked a bit of impact, even when we reconquered the ball, then it becomes all the more difficult. The small problem must be dealt with earlier, before it becomes a real problem.”

You still have eight more points than last year, are you on the path to qualifying for the Champions League?

“As usual it all depends on how the other teams do, and there are some good teams. Thank God that some of the teams are missing from the race. Now it is clear that we have to start winning games and make the most of our potential and I repeat: we have to stay attentive, it is eight years now where Inter concedes 41 goals in the Serie A.”

Do Inter need to sign a new defender?

“No, you need a mentality of the team that can take care of both sides, attacking and defending. If no, it becomes difficult to achieve our goals for this season.”

Where do you have to improve the most?

“In how we handle passes, how we never can take a pass for granted. How we treat area to area attacks where our quality players have to focus on force instead of quality.”
