Former Inter defender and Hellas Verona coach Andrea Mandorlini was nterviewed by ItaSportPress, where he shared his thoughts on the difficult moment the Nerazzurri are going through.
Mandorlini stated that “It’s hard to talk from the outside, probably Luciano Spalletti and the club know what’s going on. A long enough negative period, which goes beyond the recent injuries. The team reached the top of the league was reached, then all the advantage was squandered, too many points lost in a few days. Possibly as an explanation, there is a physical, technical and tactical drop. But there are still many games to play.”
Mandorlini was asked who he thinks has the responisbility for this saying that: “I see a team that is struggling to score in a moment where they are also unlucky such as the example with Andrea Ranocchia’s own goal. Everything goas against you, then this happens. In the interviews I have heard, it does not seem to me that the players realize what is happening, but the goal is there and there is plenty of time to recover, missing the Champions League is detrimental for the fate of the club. Even though I thought that the Inter could last over time, the fans were deceived, what has happened already has already happened many times.”
Mandorlini was asked about Icardi saying that: “He is fundamental to the team, I had Luca Toni at Verona, he was essential for us, when you do not have a player like that you feel the difference. There are important alternatives but Inter does not have another Icardi in the squad, Rafinha has arrived but I’m not 100% he’s physically capable so we do not know about him, but regardless of this I have to say that the team is in the frontfoot. Spalletti did not need so many new faces.”
In conclusion Mandorlini has not lost faith and looks to AC Milan as an example: “They have recovered, so that means that Inter can also do it. The Rossoneri come from several consecutive useful results, but soon there will be the derby and maybe there we’ll see the real Inter.”
