Real Madrid have cooled their interest in Inter captain Mauro Icardi as they set their sights on agreeing a new deal with star man Cristiano Ronaldo according to the latest report from Gazzetta dello Sport.
Despite recent rumours linking him with a move to Paris Saint Germain or a return to Manchester United, The Spanish outfit wish to extend the Portuguese phenomenon’s contract past it’s current expiry date of June 2021, when he will be 36-years-old.
Reports in recent weeks have suggested Los Blancos were extremely keen on signing Icardi to lead their front-line for years to come but Real Madrid president would rather a smaller player came in over Icardi should Karim Benzema depart the club in the summer.
The 25-year-old Argentine striker has been in red hot form this season netting 24 goals in 26 appearances and is just one goal away from setting a new personal best for goals in a season.
