La Gazzetta dello Sport has today published a report on Inter’s perceived over-reliance on Mauro Icardi and Ivan Perišić to score goals and ultimately win matches. Indeed, 24 chances were created during the previous two matches against AC Milan and Torino, both of which saw the Nerazzurri fail to score. Therefore, it seems that the team struggles to find a way past the opposition unless Icardi and Perišić are firing on all cylinders.

The aforementioned duo have scored 33 league goals between them, which equates to 66% of the squad’s overall total. Éder and some of the more attack-minded midfielders have failed to deliver in this regard, with Luciano Spalletti expecting much more from the likes of Antonio Candreva, Roberto Gagliardini and Rafinha.

La Beneamata average a goal every 7.27 shots but undoubtedly rely too much on Icardi’s lethal strike rate. Defensively, the players have rarely cracked under pressure, but other players must start contributing in attack or a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League group stage could be at serious risk.
