During an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has rejected the idea that Los Blancos could one day follow in the footsteps of Inter and be sold to a large Chinese corporation. Here is what he had to say:

“We live in an ever-changing world. In Spain, the likes of Espanyol and Granada are now owned by Chinese firms. However, this could never happen to Real, because Madrid belongs to its members.

“World famous personalities such as Plácido Domingo, Julio Iglesias, Rafael Nadal, Fernando Alonso and Sergio García are just a few examples of honorary members of our club.”

Meanwhile, on the subject of club ownership, the latest reports from Bloomberg suggest that Erick Thohir is set to sell his 78% stake in MLS franchise D.C. United to billionaire Patrick Soon-Shiong for $400 million.

Soon-Shiong recently purchased shares in the Los Angeles Lakers, as well as the Los Angeles Times and San Diego Tribune for $500 million.
