Former referee Graziano Cesari has moved to defend Daniele Orsato following the controversy that arose due to some of Orsato’s decisions in Saturday night’s Derby D’Italia which Juventus were victorious in.
“He got it wrong on the night, that’s all. He is not useless, he is not corrupt, he is not in bad faith or the servant of some higher power.”
Cesari, who refereed in Serie A between 1990 and 2002, then shared how Orsato has felt as a result of his performance.
“Orsato is profoundly disappointed and upset, as he got it wrong on one of the big appointments of his career. Orsato is not a bad referee by any means, he has had very important matches like Inter-Napoli, Torino-Juve, Napoli-Juve this season and last year had the Milan and Rome derbies.
Asked why he feels he had to comment on the matter, Cesari concluded.
“I cannot stay silent when someone is crucified like this.”
