Three months after his return to boyhood club Santos, Gabriel Barbosa has tried to show his more mature side. Following his goal against Estudientes in the Copa Libertadores (his first in eight games) last week, the Inter-owned striker gave an interview to Folha de Sao Paolo in which he discussed his return to Brazil as well as his time with both Inter and Benfica in Europe.
“Nothing sensational happened in Europe. When I made a mistake, I was always sure to apologise. I did not expect to return to Brazil after I made the jump to Europe, but it is all material to gain experience.”
It has not all been smooth sailing for the Brazilian since his return to Santos. In addition to a goalless spell, the player was also sent off against Nacional.
“It happened, even if I tried to avoid it so as to not damage the team.”
Finally, the striker discussed his new coach and teammates.
“With Jair Ventura and the players, I do not feel forced. Everyone here knows my way and can see that I have changed over time. I have learned some things.”
