The qualification for the Champions League and, therefore, the successful season overall will allow the club and Mauro Icardi to speak with serenity about an upcoming renewal.
According to Tuttosport, Icardi’s agent and wife Wanda has sent a clear message to Ausilio via various channels: the family will remain in Milan for a few extra days in the hope that the parties can meet and find an agreement.
The will of both sides is the same: to extend the contract of the Inter captain with a bump in wages. The only remaining issue seems to be to agree exactly what the new wage should be. This season, the Argentinian earned €4.7 million as a base salary, plus another €800,000 in bonuses linked to his 29 league goals for the Nerazzurri.
According to his current deal, his salary next season will rise to €4.9 million base with another 10% bonus for participation in the Champions League. Of course, the current deal also includes a €110 million buy-out clause for foreign clubs which must be activated before July 20.
This buyout clause makes Inter nervous, as they feel the figure no longer reflects the true value of the player. Instead, the club would like to raise the figure to €160 million and is ready to offer a salary of €6.5 million plus bonuses linked to total goals scored. Wanda, on the other hand, is requesting a contract worth €8 million and for the clause to remain as is. Given the desire of both parties, it should not take long for an agreement to be reached for Icardi to extend his contract until 2022.
