Inter are continuing their pursuit of Cagliari midfielder Nicolò Barella as they look to reinforce their squad ahead of the coming season.

Barella made 33 appearances and scored six goals for the Rossoblu during the 2017-18 campaign and has gained a reputation as one of Italian football’s brightest young prospects, with several top Serie A clubs thought to be following him.

Inter however appear to be the club who are most keen on signing him and sporting director Piero Ausilio reestablished contact with the player’s agent Alessandro Beltrami on Thursday morning, according to FcInterNews and Calciomercato.com.

Ausilio has already spoken with Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini in recent weeks and was told that Inter will need to pay €35 million to secure the 20 year-old’s services.

However the Nerazzurri may be able to lower the asking price by including a couple of young players in the deal, such as Xian Emmers, Jens Odgaard and Andrea Pinamonti.

FcInterNews also report that head coach Luciano Spalletti has given Barella his seal of approval and would be happy for Inter to sign him.
