Milan Skriniar has reiterated his desire to stay at Inter for another season and says he does not believe captain Mauro Icardi will be leaving the club this summer.

Skriniar played the full 90 minutes in Slovakia’s 1-1 friendly draw with the Netherlands on Thursday and spoke to Premium Sport after the match, providing reassurances both about his own future and about that of club captain Icardi.

“Yes, that’s my objective,” he replied when asked if he would be remaining at Inter to play in the Champions League.

“I’m very happy about our win against Lazio [on the final day of the season]; now we need to prepare ourselves for next season and most of all for the Champions League.

“I can’t say anything about Icardi, what he does is his decision. [But] I know that he’s happy at Inter and he was Serie A’s top-scorer this year, so I think he’ll stay with us.”

Skriniar signed for Inter last summer in a deal that saw him valued at around €35 million, which in hindsight has turned out to be an extraordinary bargain.

“Everything can change in the space of one season in football,” he said, when asked if he had proved his doubters who felt he had been overpriced wrong. “I’ve had a good season, but so have others: all of us Interisti have done well. I’m happy.”

The 23 year-old also offered a comment on new Inter signing Stefan De Vrij, whom he will be playing alongside in the centre of defence next season: “Stefan will give us a hand. I know that we’ll be a good team next season.”
