Shakhtar Donetsk has officially announced that they will not be renewing the contract of the Brazilian winger/ attacking midfielder, Bernard. As there will not be a renewal, Bernard will be a free agent as of July 1.
Corriere Dello Sport recalls that in the last few months Inter were among a number of clubs to court him on the basis that he was to become a free agent and thus cost them zero. Inter’s rivals Milan also thought about the Brazilian with a Spanish passport, who has been with the Ukrainian club since 2013.
As a free agent he would not be a burden to Inter’s financial fair play situation that has been haunting them for the past few seasons. Bernard is a low risk option to bolster the midfield with both international and Champions League experience. Bernard is only 25-year-old and arguably still has his best years ahead of him in his career.
