Inter legend Alvaro Recoba spoke on a number of different Inter related topics in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, firstly speaking about the Nerazzurri’s return to the Champions League.
“Inter is back on the highest stage and rightfully so. It is absurd to stay out of Europe for so many years as in my time it was the minimum goal that had to be achieved. I felt great joy for Inter returning to the Champions League.”
Recoba, who played for Inter between 1997 and 2008, then tipped Inter to make a proper assault for the scudetto not this coming season but the season after.
“You always have to think big when you wear certain jerseys but you need to remain grounded at the same time. The important thing for Inter is to immediately reconfirm themselves among the top teams in the league in order to then plan a concrete assault on the scudetto in the 2019-2020 season. The club is taking the right steps and doing so at the right time and it seems to me that people are enjoying it.”
Recoba then spoke on pending Inter arrival Lautaro Martinez and praised the Argentine youngster.
He is a great purchase. We are potentially speaking about a world class player and the future of the Argentinian attack. It is not by chance that the biggest European clubs wanted him. It is important that Inter know how to protect him adequately, especially during the first few months.”
He concluded the interview with the Milanese newspaper by commenting on the signings of Martinez, Kwadwo Asamoah, Stefan de Vrij and Radja Nainggolan on the whole.
“They are excellent signings.”
