Inter are monitoring the situation regarding Sporting midfielder William Carvalho after the player’s agent met with the Portuguese club to discuss rescinding his contract, according to Corriere dello Sport.
Carvalho, who is currently representing Portugal at this summer’s FIFA World Cup in Russia, made 38 appearances in all competitions for Sporting last season but has since become one of a number of players to take legal action against the club, after a group of ultras invaded the team’s training ground in May and attacked several players.
On Thursday the player’s agent, Pere Guardiola, met with new club president Sousa Cintra to search an agreement that will free up Carvalho to move elsewhere, with Inter one of the clubs interested in signing the midfielder.
According to the Rome-based publication, the Nerazzurri would be willing to offer Sporting €10 million between cash and players to secure the midfielder before he rescinds his contract, so as to avoid the hassle of having to wait for a verdict on the matter from FIFA.
The situation at the moment is in standby and is unlikely to be resolved before the conclusion of Portugal’s World Cup campaign. In any case, Luciano Spalletti’s primary target in midfield remains Mousa Dembele of Tottenham.
