Inter legend Luis Suarez has revealed that Inter had just one day to get Il Fenomeno Ronaldo to sign a contract with the club in an interview with La Repubblica il Pallone d’Oro, a news outlet from his native Spain.

“I made my interest known in the beginning and then I went to get him [Ronaldo] to sign the contract. He was playing in the Copa America in 1997 in Bolivia and Brazil’s training base was blocked off, no one could enter, it was completely controlled. Ronaldo’s agents then called me and they told me that he had a day off from training and then I left with the documents right away. I went from Milan to Rio and from Rio to Bolivia. We had just one day, otherwise we risked losing him as there were other teams interested.

“Did I have fear doing what I did? No, when I realised that he was enthusiastic about the move, I never believed he would renew at Barca for a second. Nuñes, the then president of Barça, has not spoken to me since though.”
