Inter president Erick Thohir has spoken on the impact Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival has on Serie A.

“The arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo will also benefit Serie A as well as Juventus, especially financially. His arrival in Italy is very positive because he’ll also help with the money we can make for TV rights and other things.”

“In the 90s Serie A was the best league in the world, now it has to compete with other tournaments and the most important league is the Premier League, which competes with La Liga and the Italian league. And if there are three clubs who dominate in Spain, in Italy there are six clubs who could compete for the title so it’s quite a complicated competition. Several of the best players in the world play in England, the absolute best – Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi – have played in Spain and France has made progress but there’s only Paris Saint-Germain.”

He proceeded to talk about the importance of new investors in the league, something that is becoming increasingly more common.

“What I talked about in 2013 is becoming a reality, Serie A needs new investors. After my arrival, and that of James Pallotta at Roma, there’s Suning, Joey Saputo has come to Bologna and now Milan have American owners too.”
