Former Inter midfielder Nicola Berti believes the Nerazzurri would be capable of challenging Juventus for the Scudetto if they were to sign Arturo Vidal from Bayern Munich.
Vidal is thought to be very close to a move to San Siro after the German champions agreed to sell the player on loan with an option to buy, and would become Luciano Spalletti’s seventh new arrival of the summer after the signings of Stefan De Vrij, Kwadwo Asamoah, Lautaro Martinez, Radja Nainggolan, Matteo Politano and Sime Vrsaljko.
According to Berti, who made over 200 appearances for Inter in a ten-year spell at the club, the Chilean’s arrival would turn the Nerazzurri into serious title contenders in Serie A, while also increasing their chances of success in this season’s UEFA Champions League.
“If Inter sign Vidal they’d become a super team,” he told Chilean newspaper La Tercera. “I’d be really excited if they got him.
“I love him as a player: he likes to score goals, he runs his heart out and he fights for every ball. He’d give Spalletti’s side a lot both as a player and as a leader. With Vidal we’d become a serious challenger to Juventus, I can assure you, and we’d be able to fight for the Scudetto, although I hope Inter can have a good season in the Champions League as well.
“Vidal is a warrior – fans love players like him who leave the pitch covered in sweat. Can you imagine him and [Radja] Nainggolan playing together? They’re two great players, full of power and energy.
“I really hope he arrives.”
