Out of favour Inter midfielder Joao Mario was looking for a return to England prior to the English transfer window closing five hours ago and according to a report from FCInterNews.it, he rejected an opportunity to join six-time English champions Chelsea.

The 25-year-old, who developed a strong affinity to England following a six-month loan spell with West Ham last season, rejected the Stamford Bridge club due to new manager Maurizio Sarri.

His decision is nothing personal against Sarri, who assumed control of the Blues earlier this summer, but stems from the fact that the Portuguese international does not want to work under an Italian manager again.

He now awaits other offers to arrive that will allow him to put his Inter nightmare behind him. Having joined for a fee in excess of €40 million off the back of EURO 2016, there were high hopes for Joao Mario but very seldom did he deliver as expected.
