Marcello Nicchi spoke at the meeting of the referees today at Coverciano ahead of the start of the Serie A season and was full of praise for the referees in the Serie A according to ANSA.
Nicchi stated that: “In a dramatic moment for football, with the tragedy of Genoa, with the leadership places of the FIGC to still to be defined, for the chaos that exists, the referees represent certain standards for the whole system.”
The National President of the Italian Referee Association continued by saying that: “Part of an important season but full of question marks, we expect to rebuild the Federation so we can move forward, we need elections as soon as possible and without making calculations. We consider ourselves to be ‘rebels’ but we are trying to go to the democratic vote.
“The FIGC cannot take a moment of vacation from the discussions; I have so far only talked twice with Commissioner Fabbricini. And to say that the referees, with all they do for football, deserve a 4% representation: I hope that we are able to come to a positive conclusion.”
