Inter should have moved to bring Rafinha back to the club after failing in their pursuit of Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric, according to Gazzetta dello Sport columnist Alberto Cerruti.
Rafinha impressed fans and journalists alike during the 2017-18 season as he made 17 appearances on loan for the Nerazzurri, scoring twice and providing three assists as Luciano Spalletti’s side secured a fourth-place finish in Serie A, but has now returned to parent club Barcelona after the club failed to exercise their €35 million option to buy for the player during the summer.
Speaking to RMC Sport following the opening day defeat to Sassuolo, Cerruti highlighted the problems Inter could suffer from in midfield this season and questioned the club’s decision not to resign the Brazilian.
“Inter are a better team than they were last season, but they’re missing a player with a bit of quality in midfield. Having failed to get Modric, who would have been perfect for them, they should have brought Rafinha back to the club.
“They’re an incomplete team but they remain a strong team. People need to stay calm and have patience with them, although that’s never easy in the world of football.”
