Ahead of the Champions League opener tomorrow night between Inter and Tottenham Hotspur, Italian footballing legend Paolo Di Canio has spoken on the game in an interview with Tuttosport, firstly discussing what kind of team Spurs are.

“Spurs are a very beautiful team to watch but sometimes they are just too fragile. Sometimes they can play very well but even when they are 2-0 up they always give the impression that their opponents can make a comeback somehow. They don’t have a great personality I think.”

Spurs midfielder Dele Alli is at risk of missing out and Di Canio thinks it would be a huge loss.

“It would be a very big loss for Spurs because he is a crucial player for them, even if he has not exploded permanently yet. He is a very up and down player and one who is a ‘social butterfly’ which sometimes takes away from his performances.”

Di Canio also believes that Nainggolan can cause Spurs problems.

“Whether Pochettino plays with 4-2-3-1 or 3-5-2, Nainggolan could be decisive. He is the ideal player to create a surprise with his quick and sometimes unruly insertions and then he has the physicality too.”

Di Canio then also spoke on the importance of making a winning start in the Champions League.

“It can go a long way to determining the final result in the group stage. Besides when winning a direct match you get an increase in enthusiasm and self-esteem. Inter certianly need it. The Nerazzurri must have courage and rise above the current difficulties.”
