Former referee Andrea De Marco has called for clarification from AIA (The Italian referee association) refereeing designator Nicola Rizzoli in wake of the penalty given against Fiorentina during the match against Inter last night.

“We need to clarify what constitutes a handball, Nicola Rizzoli will have to work a lot on this and it must be considered that now to lend a hand there is also technology, if it did not exist we would always be arguing about when it is a penalty and when it is not.”

De Marco also spoke on another decision in the game that saw referee Paolo Mazzoleni opt not to send off an already cautioned Kwadwo Asamoah for a challenge on Fiorentina starlet Federico Chiesa.

“Kwadwo Asamoah should have been sent off yesterday, this was the only real refereeing error in Inter-Fiorentina. VAR still does not have the power to intervene on these occasions but I hope it will be given the possibility to do so in the future.”
