Following its use at the World Cup and continued use in Italy among other nations, VAR will soon be in the Champions League according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport.

European football’s governing body UEFA intend to trial VAR during the European Super Cup match but have the problem of working out where the VAR operators will be centred if the tests are successful. Unlike at the World Cup and in Italy where all the action happens in the same country, action is spread across Europe in the Champions League which makes things a bit difficult and costly at the same time.

VAR could be in the Champions League from next season if everything goes well and then its implementation in the Europa League will come the season thereafter.

The report from the Milan based newspaper also suggests VAR could see usage at next year’s Under 21 European Championship’s, with the youth international tournament to be held in Italy.
