Regina Baresi, Inter women’s team player and daughter of Inter legend Giuseppe Baresi and niece of AC Milan legend Franco Baresi, was a guest at a women’s football event in Triennale where she spoke about the women’s game in Italy.
Baresi was very positive about the future of the game for women in Italy stating that: “The fact that Sky has acquired the rights to women’s football is a step forward for the entire movement. I have always been passionate about football since I was a child but neither my mother nor my father wanted me to play.
“I played tennis for 4 years then I started playing football at the age of 12 and I convinced everyone. However, there are many parents who have a difficulty with letting their girls start to play football. In the beginning the idea was that one could get a physique and body similar to men’s physique so they prefer their daughters to dance or volleyball” Baresi stated.
In conclusion she was asked about the upcoming Milano derby she replied: “With my father and my uncle the issue of the derby has always been experienced in a particular way. It is a match that is different from all others, winning it always makes the difference even if Inter and Milan aren’t producing great results otherwise.”
