Stefano Tirelli, the mental coach of former Inter defender Davide Santon, has spoken on the tough time the Italian endured near the end of his time with the club.

“We started working together in the last phase of the last season when Davide was feeling very down for a number of reasons such as every time he touched the ball, San Siro whistled him. When we started, he was very unmotivated. The Inter environment was not the best place for him as he had become the scapegoat of a team that achieved mixed results,” Tirelli explained in an interview with forzaroma.info.

“Davide exploded at Inter in a very favourable environmental condition, when he played in Mourinho’s super team. The following years in Inter were another story. The changes of coaches did not give much confidence to the boy, and the injuries resulted in the negative period for him.”

Tirelli then spoke on how Santon feels now he is at Roma.

“He left Inter with sadness, he lived many years at the Nerazzurri and felt like a club veteran. Now he has discovered a beautiful city, which he previously knew little about. There have been a series of events and elements that together are determining what is the beginning of a rebirth for him. For example, the excellent work done by Davide’s team of representatives that allowed him to have an important chance in a great club, but also the family that was close to him after the threats that arrived on social networks a few months ago. In those days I went to his house to cheer him up and to help him react to those events.”
