Inter defender Milan Skriniar is wanted by Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho in the January transfer window according to a report from ESPN.

The Portuguese manager, who famously managed Inter to the treble, is under increasing pressure at Old Trafford and is looking to ease that pressure by having a strong transfer window and addressing an area that should have been addressed back in the summer transfer window, the defence.

Mourinho tried for more experienced heads in Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng, Atletico Madrid’s Diego Godin and Toby Alderweireld of Tottenham Hotspur in the summer but was not given the necessary funds to secure any of them.

Skriniar is joined on the shortlist by Milan’s defender Alessio Romagnoli and both would be available to be signed for £40 million – approximately €45 million. The Red Devils are unlikely to get Skriniar that cheaply though with him being regarded as one of the top defenders in the world. In addition to this he still has four years on his current deal with the Nerazzurri.
