FIGC president to be Gabriele Gravina is out to take Italian football “out of the Middle Ages” when he assumes the position he has revealed in an interview with Corriere della Sera.

“There’s a lot we have to do and there’s no time to waste. We need to get out of the Middle Ages and aim for a new humanism. Myself, Renzo Ulivieri and Marcello Nicci met and reached an agreement. Now we hope to reach a broad consensus to give life to the reforms.”

Gravina then spoke on Club Italia and his desire to have Giuseppe Marotta involved.

“Club Italia should be treated like a club side, just the same as Juve, Milan or Torino. I’ll be the President, then I’ll need a board of directors. Club Italia will be divided into two areas: organisational and technical.

“Marotta would be the right profile because we’re talking about a great director. We met and I was able to personally verify his interest and availability, which is real, but when it comes to the financial parameters I don’t know if a marriage is possible.”
