Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio has spoken with Sky Sport and confirmed that renewals are being discussed with Inter’s biggest stars but first discussed the season so far.

“The team has shown a lot of character, but in my view there is something more. It takes quality to achieve certain results and Inter proved that over the last few games. You don’t win just with determination, but seeing as we’ve got that too, we certainly won’t take it for granted.

“We’re having a great impact in all tournaments. The team we’ve seen over the last few weeks is the foundation on which to build an even stronger one in future. It’s only normal we’d start with a few difficulties, as we have six or seven new players, but we are improving and want to do even better in the derby.

“For example, Keita Balde arrived in the final days of the transfer market and played at the World Cup, so needs time to find his form. I am convinced he’ll prove himself to be a great signing, because he has quality and is versatile.”

Ausilio then spoke on the upcoming Milan derby.

“The objective of entering the Champions League was achieved last season and we laid the groundwork that we are now building on. If Milan are feeling confident in the moment, then imagine how we feel. It’ll be a quality derby.

Ausilio proceeded to discuss the contract renewals of club captain Mauro Icardi and midfield maestro Marcelo Brozovic.

“We have the intention of improving and renewing Icardi’s contract and there is collaboration on the other side too. Having three years on his current deal, it’s possible we could sort it out over days or months, there is no rush. As for Brozovic, we’re on the final strait. We’re talking about a contract with Milan Skriniar too.”

He concluded the interview with the broadcaster by being asked if Inter could sign Luka Modric in January following a failed attempt in the summer.

“It is absolutely impossible.”
