In today’s paper edition of the newspaper, Milano based Gazzetta dello Sport goes back to discuss the duel between the strikers and the obvious differences between them. Both Mauro Icardi and Gonzalo Higuain are Argentinians who have goal-scoring in their blood, but this is where the similarities end.
The newspaper discusses their differences in terms of management and family origins: “Maradona unites both of these players as they have both managed to get fierce criticism from him. Maradona has always had harsh words for Icardi due to his romance with Wanda and the ‘betrayal’ of Maxi Lopez. With regards to Higuain, he has criticized him for his ‘betrayal’ of Napoli, whom he parted ways with in order to join one of their biggest rivals: Juve. But Maradona has always had a soft spot for Pipita as he allowed him to have his official debut for the Argentinian national team in 2009. These are two excellent player as indicated by Sarri when he stated that Icardi is the only possible replacement for Higuain during the summer when Juventus paid Higuain’s release clause.”
