Inter played Milan at the Giuseppe Meazza which turned into a game that took so much fight to finally win. Inter fielded their best eleven which consisted of Vrsljko at right back, Skriniar and De Vrij central, and Asamoah at left back.

This was followed by Brozovic and Vecino in the holding midfield, Perisic on the left, Radja in the middle and Politano on the right all led by the captain of captains Mauro Icardi. The game had a very strong tempo which saw Inter dominate a lot of the ball possession, they wanted to proceed with cautious because of the way Milan was set up.

Inter made sure to hold on to the ball as much as possible because Gattuso wanted to play with such a high press. This saw Milan let Inter play with the ball in their own half while their front three pressing along with Kessie and Bonaventura. This cuts off nearly all circulation to our distributor in that number ten role that started as Nainggolan but unfortunately Valero had to be summoned due to an injury but regardless the 31 year old played like a 23 year old star.

As the game progressed Borja Valero was forced to either come incredibly close to the holding midfielders or find space out wide. The holding midfielders only started finding the break through central passes towards the end of the game but before that they really had to rely on the wing backs to change the sides of the plays.

Inters possession game also allowed them to overload the wings. They did this buy absorbing the high pressing Milan and then feeding it to the wing backs to carry it out with the support of their respective wings and one of the holding midfielders as well. This mean the only way Milan can match the amount of bodies Inter put out wide was to commit the entire side at a time (example, left back, left mid and left forward). This would allow the wide back to recycle backwards to the very capable center backs who can give it to Brozovic to distribute or Vecino to drive up the field.

Last but not least, the saviour of the day, Mauro Icardi. Mauro Icardi played such a crucial role today not only with the goal but in his participation. Icardi made several ghost runs which consists of horizontal movement which forces the center backs to either miscommunicate or completely commit to him which both result into gapping holes for Perisic and Politano to make runs into. Unfortunately those couldn’t be converted but the captain himself was able to spring Inter into seventh heaven with the seventh straight win in all competitions.
