Ahead of this weekend’s clash away to Milan at San Siro, Sampdoria manager Marco Giampaolo spoke on the beauty of playing games at the Milanese clubs shared home in an interview with Il Secolo XIX.
“I have had the good fortune to win at San Siro, I did it twice in the same season and you feel a unique emotion. San Siro gives you an extraordinary feeling that I have never experienced before elsewhere. Games at San Siro urge to up your level of attention and there is special charm about games there. This applies both to the coach and for the players too. The first time someone takes to the field, foreigners especially, they remain almost petrified and are intimidated by it.
“To play in stadiums like San Siro you have to have the character and experience to support certain ambitions. Our supporters have won us lots of matches but to insure this remains the case, we must always keep them on our side, through playing well, showing character, determination, pride and sense of belonging.”
