Gazzetta dello Sport have compared Inter’s data this season to that of the Triplete winning side of nine years ago at the same stage of the season.
After 13 games (10 in Serie A, three in the Champions League), both sides collected a total of 28 points. While Mourinho won three from three in the Champions League, Spalletti has won two of three while winning an extra game in the league instead. Just like Inter suffered a loss to Parma, Mourinho’s Inter had a disappointing result of their own as they drew with Bari.
The Triplete team were far more clinical in front of goal too as they had scored 29 goals at this stage of their campaign compared to the Inter of today’s 20. Modern day Inter do have the upper hand when it comes to defensive record. They have conceded 10 goals compared to Mourinho’s side’s 12 at this stage.
In terms of strikers, Mauro Icardi has performed better than Diego Milito did. Icardi has seven goals and he has won Inter every game bar the one against Lazio – where Marcelo Brozovic’s goal would’ve still given Inter victory if Icardi hadn’t scored – when scoring.
