Radja Nainggolan is aiming to make a return to first team action in next week’s Champions League clash at home to Barcelona according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sky Sport 24.

The Belgian midfielder took a knock to his left ankle during the Milan derby in the middle of October and has been sidelined since and as a result he has missed Inter’s past two games, a 2-0 loss to Barcelona in the Champions League and a resounding 3-0 win over Lazio in league play.

In training this week he has shown numerous positive signals but despite this Inter manager Luciano Spalletti will not risk him in this weekend’s Serie A encounter with Genoa to avoid the 30-year-old possibly relapsing.

Nainggolan joined Inter in the summer transfer window from fellow Serie A club Roma. Since arriving at San Siro he has played in nine games across all competitions, scoring twice in the process.
