Former Inter striker Alessandro Altobelli reflected on the Serie A season so far and Inter, who he believes are a ‘super team’ now.

“It has been an excellent season so far and it would be great if Milan and Inter could beat Juventus, the Milanese are back,” Altobelli said in an interview with Radio Anch’io Sport.

“Inter are a team who have twenty starters and it is not easy, but Spalletti manages to give space to everyone and today he has a super team, who plays a good football and the results prove this. They have seven consecutive victories in the league.”

Altobelli, who is among the club’s top goalscorers, then spoke on Mauro Icardi and Lautaro Martinez.

“Icardi is one of the five strongest strikers in the world. Martinez I see him as an alternative to Icardi but he must show it. It’s not easy to be a part of Inter, he has some particular qualities and he can play as a second striker but in a game when you win 5-0, he has to be among the scorers otherwise it will take longer for him to be a starter.”

Altobelli, who won a single Serie A title and two Coppa Italia’s during his time at Inter, then spoke on Inter’s chances at silverware this term.

“The Scudetto is difficult for Inter and it is really easier for them to win the Champions League and then there is the Coppa Italia.”

He proceeded to comment on Inter’s match with Barcelona tomorrow.

“I think this Inter is playing exceptionally well and wins deservedly and can put Barcelona in trouble because they will be Messi and away from home.”

He concluded the interview by speaking on the apparently imminent arrival of Giuseppe Marotta on the Inter board.

“He is a great director. He rebuilt Juventus and helped them win seven straight titles and make two Champions League finals. He set up a team that will win this year too. He is an executive who has just as much worth as a goalscorer.”
